Stephen Lovell

Stephen J. LovellStephen J. Lovell serves as Chairman of the Board of The Lovell Group (Lovell Safety Management Co., LLC and Lovell & Lovell, PC). Son of founder Jac M. Lovell, Stephen Lovell joined the company in 1964, and, upon his father's retirement in 1970, took up the presidency. During the summer of 2006, in re–evaluating his priorities after 36 years at the helm, Mr. Lovell decided that the company would benefit from the next generation's fresh perspective, and named his son, Barry S. Lovell, as his successor.

Under Stephen Lovell's leadership the company expanded its client base and was authorized to manage additional industry–wide safety groups throughout New York State. In 1970, the company had 15 employees operating out of a single office location, servicing 300 members. Today, the company numbers just under 100 employees, servicing over 3,250 businesses throughout New York State, from a total of seven offices.

Mr. Lovell is a respected member of the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and has participated in these agencies' Insurance and Workers' Compensation Committees. He was awarded his Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law, and his undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Administration from the College of William & Mary.

Mr. Lovell is a long–time member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and past president of the Association of Safety Group Managers. He has contributed his expertise and industry experience to the efforts of the Workers' Compensation Committee of the New York Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of New York State, Inc. As a valued Adjunct Professor at the College of Insurance, Mr. Lovell has been a frequent guest lecturer at association meetings throughout the state, and his authoritative articles on workers' compensation issues have appeared in numerous trade publications.
